Brutalism

In January, 2017, my dad was struck by two cars and paralyzed below his chest. Over his month-long stay in the ICU, his 3 months of rehab, and continued daily struggles, I was awed and repulsed by the medical practices used for his survival. This series is a personal response to those experiences. I mutilate the canvas after painting to mirror the brutalism of both the incident and the medicine.
