The expressive series is the jumping off point of my art. A series started in my final semester at UCD in 2009. It was bigger, bolder, and more energetic than anything I had done leading up to then.
These are portraits of imagined people. Each one captures an emotion instead of an individual. The canvases are found material, and the weirdly cut shapes guide the composition of each piece. I learned to love starting with ‘marred’ canvases. I’ve continued this approach since then, never starting a painting on an unpainted surface.
Each piece shown here is available for sale. Please email for details.
